BR 1-08: Martin Luther King

I read a biography of Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King is well-known as a leader in the African American civil rights movement. All he wanted was for black people like him to be treated fairly in the then America.

He was born in 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. In those days, there is large segregation in America. He saw it with his own eyes many times. For example, they were forced to drink from separate fountains, attend separate schools, play in separate parks, and be restricted to use stores. No matter where is, there is. He was shocked.

He acted for abolition of this large segregation, and he was tenacious of his conviction - non-violent resistance like Gandhi. He continued his act with his conviction. At last, in 1963, he marched to Washington D.C. to deliver his historic speech. He said "I Have a Dream" there. The next year, he leaded a fifty-mile march. In this year, in 1964, they won Civil Rights Act, new voting rights for black American. He was assassinated in 1968, regardless of his act.

I think he was one of the greatest people. His act for fair is respectable, because his act was with non-violent. That is difficult to be tenacious more than act with violent. (215 words)
